In the middle of Virginia Beach's fast paced tourist area lies 2888 acres of pristine pine forest, swamp and wetlands -- left much the same as the first explorers to this area found it.
First Landing State Park (formerly Seashore State Park) was created in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It boasts 19 miles of biking and hiking trails along with a myriad of camping facilities, boat ramps, swimming, natural history programs and picnic areas. You and your family can literally plan days of inexpensive outdoor fun. All facilities are handicap accessible. There is also a beautiful gazebo and amphitheater that can be rented for special events and weddings.
World-renowned Mount Trashmore Park encompasses 165 acres and is comprised of two man-made mountains, two lakes, two playgrounds, a skate park and vert ramp, and multi-use paths. The main mountain, Mount Trashmore, now 60 feet in height and 800 feet long, was created by compacting layers of solid waste and clean soil. Recognized for its environmental feat, this former land fill features a water-wise garden that boasts xeriscaping which requires minimal water.
The park also features a smaller mountain, Encore Hill, and two lakes. Lake Windsor (located along South Blvd.) is brackish water fed by Thalia Creek. Lake Trashmore (located along Edwin Drive) is freshwater and hosts various species of fish.
Fishing is permitted from land only and requires a license. Fishers must adhere to all State regulations regarding creel and size limits. No boats, swimming or wading is allowed in the lakes.
In 1974, Ocean Breeze Waterpark began with three mat slides and the distinction of being the only waterpark in Virginia Beach. Thirty-nine years later, the park has grown to over 30 rides, slides, and attractions, and strives to be the family destination of choice for locals and tourists alike. Our typical season runs from the weekend before Memorial Day to the weekend after Labor Day. Ready to float down the quarter-mile Adventure River? How about another turn, or four, on the monster slide complex Neptune’s Revenge? Maybe the thought of just sitting poolside with a funnel cake in one hand and a book in the other makes you break into a full grin. Our zero depth entry million-gallon wave pool gives you the option to ride the waves or relax in the shallow end. Even the littlest buccaneers can go on a high-seas adventure in our water playground with a pint sized pirate ship, and tipping bucket in Hook’s Lagoon. No matter how old, young or daring—you will get more smiles per gallon from your visit to Ocean Breeze Waterpark.
